"Ultimately, this is about ensuring that the authority is organized in an appropriate manner," said Minister of Culture Parisa Liljestrand (M) in a press release.

The State Property Board (SFV) wants to increase rents for the Ethnographic Museum by 57 percent starting in 2027. This has prompted the State Museums of World Culture (SMVK) to terminate the lease agreements for the Mediterranean Museum and the East Asian Museum to manage its finances.

The government is now requesting an analysis from SMVK, as well as one from the State Treasury, with proposals for how the operation should continue, including the question of premises. The government will then make a decision about the future, said Liljestrand.
