The Georgian-Russian sculptor, artist, and architect Zurab Tsereteli is dead. He passed away on Tuesday, 92 years old.
Tsereteli was known for his monumental, and sometimes disputed, sculptures. His works can be found all over the world, but he was strongly tied to Moscow and received Russian citizenship in 2003 from President Vladimir Putin for "having particularly served" the country.
Among Tsereteli's most famous and controversial works are the Peter the Great statue in Moscow and the Columbus statue in Arecibo, Puerto Rico. He was also the chairman of the Russian Academy of Arts and the head of the Moscow Museum of Modern Art.
