Registration closed at midnight on Wednesday, and the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR) tallied its highest number of applications to date. Since last year alone, the number of people interested in studying has increased by almost 13,000.
The tough situation on the labor market is believed to be playing a role.
"In uncertain times, many people choose to invest in their future through education. At the same time, large cohorts of young people are now reaching the age to apply for higher studies, which further contributes to the high application pressure," Jenny Twana, head of unit at UHR, said in a press release.
A screening process is now underway among the applicants, who will receive their first admission notification on July 10.
