The Madrid prosecutor's office is accusing the 65-year-old Italian of failing to declare income to the Spanish tax authority from image rights in 2014 and 2015 amounting to 1 million euro.
According to the Spanish newspaper Marca, the prosecutor is seeking a prison sentence of four years and nine months. A spokesperson for the Madrid court also states that he is required to attend his trial.
French newspaper L'Equipe writes that the court announced in the summer of 2023 that the 65-year-old would be brought to trial, without specifying a date for the trial.
What I can say is that this is an old story that I hope will be resolved soon, replied the coach.
During 2014 and 2015, Ancelotti was the coach of Real Madrid, and the prosecutor accuses him of only declaring his personal compensation from Real Madrid as income in his tax returns. Despite having declared himself to be tax-resident in Spain and stating that his home was in Madrid.
Furthermore, they accuse Ancelotti of setting up a "confusing" and "complicated" system of shell companies to conceal his additional income from his image rights, as well as from other sources such as real estate.
The iconic coach has won three Champions League titles, three league titles, and two Spanish cup titles with Real Madrid.
The trial will be held on Wednesday and Thursday.
