Prosecutor Reacts to Think Pink Verdict: A Sense of Relief

The verdict has fallen after the environmental scandal Think Pink. Co-founder – "waste queen" Fariba Vancor – was sentenced to six years in prison. In many ways it feels good because I perceive that the court has understood the evidence that we have presented, says prosecutor Linda Schön. But the verdict will be appealed.

We have different opinions, the court and Fariba Vancor, on how to assess what has occurred, says Vancor's lawyer Jan Tibbling to Sveriges Radio's Ekot.

According to the prosecutor, who has only had time to glance through the 700-page long verdict, it has been a challenge to present the enormous investigation in a pedagogical way.

It is always a concern one has when it comes to this type of legislation and crime – which the courts do not try every week – and also when the evidence is so extensive. Therefore, my first reaction is that it is a relief that it feels like we have succeeded with it, says Linda Schön.

In total, ten of the eleven prosecuted in the scandal where hundreds of thousands of tons of waste were dumped illegally around the country were convicted. All have denied the crime.

TV profile Leif-Ivan Karlsson, who had a CEO role within the conglomerate, was however completely acquitted.

It is obvious that the district court does not share our view on that person's involvement in the business, says Linda Schön.

Can there be reason to appeal the verdict?

We are not there yet, but we must calmly get to read and analyze.
