On Thursday, Avicii Arena – or Globen as it is commonly referred to in everyday language – opened its doors again after a billion-kronor renovation.
Fittingly, Tre Kronor got to inaugurate the arena, which will be used during the World Championship in May. But the majority of the spectators would have to go home disappointed.
Sweden lost to the Czech Republic in the opening match of Beijer Hockey Games with 1–4.
After a smoking start, where both teams scored goals within the first four minutes of the match, it was the Czech Republic that drew the longest straw.
With just over ten minutes left of the match, Radan Lenc, who normally plays for HV71, scored 3–1, which punctuated the match. Then the Czech Republic finished off with another goal in an empty net.
Sebastian Hartmann scored the Swedish goal.
Before the match, the victims of the school shooting in Örebro were honored with a minute of silence.
The four-team tournament continues on Saturday, when Switzerland awaits Tre Kronor, before it all concludes against Finland on Sunday.
