In the beginning of March, the battery manufacturer Northvolt went bankrupt after a prolonged debt and liquidity crisis.

In a press release, the Police write that they and eight other authorities that are part of a collaboration against, among other things, organized crime, see a risk that the bankruptcy, described as the largest Swedish one in modern times, will be exploited by unscrupulous and criminal actors.

"The bankruptcy leads to much anxiety and many question marks, and we know that when there is uncertainty and money to be made, the criminals are drawn to it. They want to exploit this crisis and make money from it", says Lars Wahlberg, Deputy Regional Police Chief, Police Region North, in a comment.

The authorities see, among other things, a risk that those who lose their jobs will be exploited by unscrupulous employers. Many of the employees are foreign and may therefore be forced to leave Sweden if they do not find a new job within three months.

They also see a risk that unscrupulous actors will try to exploit the state's wage guarantee.
