The performance at Villa Park in hometown Birmingham on July 5 will be the first concert where all four original members of Black Sabbath – apart from Ozzy Osbourne, also Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward – play together in 20 years.
The gala is named "Back to the beginning" and the proceeds will go, among other things, to charity organizations.
"It's time for me to go 'back to the beginning', time for me to give something back to the place where I was born. What a joy to be able to do it with the help of people I love", says Ozzy Osbourne in a statement, according to Sky News.
Ozzy Osbourne, 75, will first perform a shorter solo concert at the gala before finishing together with Black Sabbath. The band was formed in Birmingham in 1968 and is one of the greatest heavy metal pioneers in rock history.
The group's early songs "Paranoid", "Iron man", and "War pigs" are classics. Ozzy Osbourne left the group – for the first time – in 1977 for a successful solo career. Although he has reunited with the group several times since then.
Also performing at the gala are Metallica, Slayer, Alice In Chains, and a supergroup consisting of, among others, Duff McKagan and Slash from Guns n' Roses, Billy Corgan from Smashing Pumpkins, and Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst.
Ozzy Osbourne injured his back in 2019 after a fall at home and that accident, along with other health-related reasons, made him announce two years ago that it was no longer possible for him to perform longer concerts.
