Over 200 demonstrators have been arrested at the central station in the Dutch city of The Hague. Train traffic to and from the station was paused for several hours.

Several hundred people had gathered outside the foreign ministry to demonstrate against Israel's boarding of the ships in the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) convoy, writes the Dutch public service company NOS.

When the police dispersed the demonstrators, they moved to the train station. According to NOS, several people stood on the tracks, which caused the train traffic to stop.

"Regardless of what you are demonstrating for, if you stand on the tracks, you put both yourself and others at risk," says the railway company NS's CEO Wouter Koolmees.

16 Dutch activists were on the ships that were part of the convoy.

Demonstrations in support of the convoy have previously been held in several countries. Among other places, in Italy, trade unions have announced a general strike on Friday, but protests broke out in several cities already late on Wednesday evening after some of the ships were stopped.

Also in several Latin American cities, such as in Mexico City, Bogotá in Colombia and Buenos Aires in Argentina, people took to the streets, according to the Turkish Anatolia.
