This year's national day celebration in Oslo has good conditions to become properly wet – from this year, the Norwegian capital's bars were allowed to open as early as 8 am.
But the interest in having a beer for breakfast was relatively cool when the Norwegian newspaper VG made a round trip to the serving places that had taken advantage of the new opportunity – only a handful of guests were present at the different pubs at half past nine on Saturday morning.
Larger was the interest in dressing up in folk costume and, with Norway's flag in hand, venturing out onto streets and squares. The traditional children's procession, a parade with school pupils, occupied Oslo's main street Karl Johans gate at lunchtime.
