The price for a one-way trip by car is 750 kronor, more than double as much as the bridges in the world that are the second most expensive.

Next in the price list come the bridges between Kobe and Naruto in Japan, Confederation Bridge in Canada and the Great Belt Bridge in Denmark.

If you pay an annual fee of 537 kronor, the price for a trip over the Öresund Bridge is discounted. However, according to the newspaper, you must drive over the bridge 17 times before the average price becomes lower than the discounted price on the Great Belt Bridge in Denmark.

Linus Eriksson, CEO of the Öresund Bridge Consortium, which is owned by the Swedish and Danish states, points to two reasons for the high price.

We have not used a single tax krona to pay for this bridge. And so far, we have a debt left to pay back, he says to the newspaper.

The second reason is that the toll on the Öresund Bridge must have its starting point in what it costs to take the ferry between Helsingborg and Helsingör. This according to an agreement that Sweden and Denmark entered into in 1991 ahead of the construction of the Öresund Bridge, which was inaugurated in 2000.

The cheapest way to cross the bridge is to take the train. The price for a one-way trip Malmö–Copenhagen is 150 kronor.
