The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Thursday that 70,000 doses will be used to see whether the vaccine works against the current variant, Bundibugyo.
The vaccine protects against an earlier Ebola variant called Zaire, and will now be tested on a limited scale to see whether it protects against Bundibugyo, the WHO group that coordinates the control and limited distribution of vaccines said.
The so-called Ervebo vaccine is safe for humans, but has only been tested on animals against the Bundibugyo variant.
Around 2,500 people - out of 5,200 confirmed cases - have died from the virus in Congo-Kinshasa in the latest outbreak, which is believed to be the worst yet.
