After the successful start - Öberg shot herself out

Elvira Öberg shot herself out, Ella Halvarsson didn't have the strength all the way and for Hanna Öberg it was mostly pitch black. The Swedish female biathletes had a tough time in the sprint in Hochfilzen.

After the placement row 3-2-1 in the World Cup premiere in Kontiolax, Elvira Öberg came to Austrian Hochfilzen with the yellow leader's vest.

But Öberg failed to build on the fine season start.

Öberg missed two shots in prone, which ruined all chances of fighting for victory. When there were two more misses in standing, even the hope of a decent placement disappeared.

Öberg finished 25th, despite having one of the fastest skiing times.

It's really bad. I saw the hit picture and it's four narrow misses, says Elvira Öberg to SVT.

Has to hunt

After the race, the 25-year-old didn't feel like she had made any major mistakes in either of the two shooting series.

Still, it turns out this bad. That's what biathlon is, I suppose, says Öberg, who now has a tough starting position for Saturday's pursuit.

The Swede will then start more than a minute after German Franziska Preuss, who won the sprint ahead of Frenchwoman Sophie Chauveau and Norway's Karoline Offigstad Knotten.

Preuss thereby also took over the lead in the overall World Cup, where Öberg is now second.

If Elvira Öberg had it tough, it was nothing compared to her big sister Hanna, who was sick before the season start in Kontiolax.

After struggling in the competitions there, it got even worse when Hanna Öberg missed three shots, skied slowly, and finished 66th. This means she won't even get to participate in the pursuit.

If you're in bed for two weeks, your body is affected, but now it's about finding the best plan forward, says national team coach Johannes Lukas to SVT.

Magnusson best

This winter's blue-yellow sensation Ella Halvarsson looked like she was going to be the best of the six Swedes. Halvarsson was eighth with just one kilometer of skiing left, but faltered badly and finished 16th.

I was so damn tired, but I'm really happy with the race. Until the end, it was as good as it gets, she says to SVT.

Anna Magnusson, in 15th place, became the best Swedish performer.

Corrected: In an earlier version, there was an incorrect placement for Hanna Öberg.
