Last year's list of new words included, among other things, the word "mammakorven" (knee-length coat) and the nonsense word "skibidi". But when did words like "dagispop" and "kobingo" become trendy? You can now find out using the Language Council's "New Words Search" (the answer is 1986).
"The words in our lists may be temporary and never appear in a dictionary. That's why I see them as a hidden cultural treasure. With "New Word Search," that cultural treasure has become more accessible," explains Ola Karlsson, New Word Editor at the Language Council.
Each new word is presented with a brief explanation, an example from a newspaper, and comments on usage, spelling, and inflection.
The New Words List has been presented each December since 1986.
