Klæbo has not competed since he won the Tour de Ski for the fourth time in superior style.
The intense tour around New Year's, with the climb to the top of Alpe Cermis as the finale, took a toll on the Norwegian star.
In his absence, Sweden celebrated major triumphs last weekend on the men's side, as Edvin Anger first won the classic sprint in Les Rousses on Saturday and then William Poromaa was the first to cross the finish line in the 20-kilometer mass start on Sunday.
Anger's victory was the first Swedish victory on the men's side in the World Cup in four years individually.
On the women's side, it has been clear since earlier that Therese Johaug and Heidi Weng will be skipping the weekend's competitions.
The competitions in Engadin will take place on 24-26 January, with a mixed relay on Friday, a sprint in free style on Saturday, and a mass start on Sunday.
