Norwegian Astrid Øyre Slind, the runner-up in the Tour de Ski, has been forced to withdraw after becoming ill.

In a press release, the Norwegian Ski Association says that Øyre Slind woke up with a sore throat.

"Sad, but nothing can be done about it. Unfortunately, I got sick last night and I can only wish the other girls good luck," says Øyre Slind.

The Norwegian was 50 seconds behind the leader, Jessie Diggins, before today's pursuit start in Toblach.

The Norwegian team was further weakened when sprint specialist Oskar Opstad Vike was also forced to leave the Tour de Ski. He has back pain.

The men's pursuit, 15 km in classic style, starts at 10:30 a.m. The women's is two hours later.
