The Norwegian Helene Marie Fossesholm is ending her career as a cross-country skier, she announces on Instagram. ”The last few months my motivation has gone very much up and down, and unfortunately I have mostly felt the latter”, writes the 24-year-old.

Helene Marie Fossesholm was seen as a great skiing talent with, among other things, three gold medals at the Junior World Championship and she made a big breakthrough when she won a World Championship gold in the relay in 2021. She also took two podium places in the World Cup that winter.

Since then, however, it has been tough. In November 2023, Fossesholm announced that she is pausing her career. She was back on the tracks in February 2024, but now the national team skier is making the decision to quit completely. Now she will study to become a doctor.

"I'm really looking forward to it. It will be a different daily life", she writes.

She ends the post by saying that she is feeling "very well".

"I choose to follow my heart and do what is best for me. Cross-country skiing has always been a big part of my life, and it will continue to be important to me, just on a slightly smaller scale", writes Fossesholm.
