The company behind the World Championship in skiing in Trondheim in February–March had expected a surplus of 15–20 million kronor, but instead it is likely to be a huge economic loss of over 30 million Norwegian kronor, according to the newspaper VG.
Now the organizers are being demanded a total of 134 million Norwegian kronor from a large number of creditors, but the company believes that several of the claims are disputed.
The management of the World Championship company believes that the total amount for the claims to be approved amounts to around 86 million Norwegian kronor.
The goal is for all 41 national ski associations to receive full payment, but for the others, a plan will now be drawn up.
If the company goes bankrupt, many will be left without money – then only 10–15 percent of the debts will be covered.
And then the money will come in two years. We must try to get a voluntary arrangement that gives a fairly good dividend, says lawyer Marius Gisvold, who led Tuesday evening's crisis meeting in Trondheim with over 50 creditors present.
The Norwegian Ski Association owns 60 percent of the World Championship company and has made a claim of 7.5 million kronor. Due to the economic fiasco, the association has announced layoffs.
