A man in his 40s has been sentenced to prison for smuggling over two million cigarettes and 1,700 liters of spirits to Norway.
The man was stopped by customs at the Svinesundsbron in early December last year and initially refused to show his cargo, writes Strömstadstidning.
The customs officers found 2,100,000 cigarettes and 1,710 liters of spirits, and the man has now been convicted of smuggling at the district court in Halden, Norway.
The district court considers the execution to be professional and believes that large seizures should be punished severely, as smuggling can lead to other criminal activities.
Since the man has confessed, he will receive a 10% discount on his sentence and will be imprisoned for two years and ten months.
