Soccer players in Norway's top league who become pregnant and whose contracts are expiring should automatically receive a contract extension.
It is when a player is in week twelve of pregnancy, before the end of the contract year, that she should be offered a one-year extension on at least the same terms as the last contract year.
"As employers, we have a responsibility for the whole person, not just the player. In a league with a low average age, it is particularly important that young players feel that it is possible to think about both their career and family", says Marianne Solheim, who leads Toppfotball Kvinner, in a press release.
"It should be safe to become pregnant as a professional soccer player in Norway."
