The man was found dead in a forest area in Oslo at around 11 pm on Thursday. The police had been alerted about loud bangs in the area earlier and were able to locate the man using a drone, reports Norwegian VG.
No one has been arrested for the murder and the police are now searching for an unknown perpetrator.
This is a brutal murder, says Grete Lien Metlid, head of the intelligence and investigation department at the Oslo police district during a press conference.
Marius Dietrichson has been the man's defense attorney for many years and is now assisting the relatives.
The family is in shock and just wants peace and quiet, says Dietrichson to VG.
The robbery against Norsk kontantservice (Nokas) in Stavanger in 2004 is the largest that has occurred in Norway. The robbery lasted for about 20 minutes and the robbers got away with 57.4 million Norwegian kronor. Most of the loot has never been found. The robbery ended with a police officer being killed.
The 46-year-old was sentenced to 16 years in prison for involvement in the robbery. He has never admitted to being involved in the robbery, writes VG. In 2019, he was sentenced to five years and four months in prison for importing 50 kilos of cannabis. He was released in June 2024.

During the brutal robbery, a police officer was shot dead.

In the Nokas case, 13 people were initially charged, but a total of 15 people were charged.
Eleven of them were charged with aggravated robbery with deadly outcome.
Two of the accused were Swedes.
The suspected 30-year-old main perpetrator, David Toska, admitted guilt to aggravated robbery with deadly outcome.
