Finland, which came to the match after a win against Iceland, got a nightmare start. Already in the second minute, Caroline Graham Hansen hit a cross that went via Finnish defender Eva Nyström into their own goal.
But the goal lifted Finland, which entered the match and took over the game in an impressive way.
Norway was really pressured and only created one good scoring chance in the first half. It was when Ada Hegerberg, in the 29th minute, got free with Finnish goalkeeper Anna Koivunen, who made a brilliant save.
Finland close
Finland quickly turned around and a minute later set up an impressive attack that ended with Oona Sevenius, who plays for FC Rosengård, making it 1–1. Norway was properly shaken after the equalizer.
Although Norway started well in the second half, Finland came back and took over the game in midfield, which created problems for Norway. In the 63rd minute, Eveliina Summanen had a shot that hit the post, one of several Finnish chances against a tame Norway.
Therefore, it was a real cold shower for Finland when Graham Hansen, after her own preparation, lifted the ball into the goal at the far post.
Thus, Norway took a step closer to the quarterfinals.
"Work to be done"
Match winner Graham Hansen admits to SVT that Norway must improve their game if this is to be a continued pleasant European Championship:
We have a bit of work to do. But it's better to stand here with six points than to have zero points and have played well.
At the same time, Finland's forward Linda Sällström was both disappointed and satisfied:
I couldn't be more proud of how we played today. The first half was the best we've played. We deserved so much more. Norway was lucky today.
