Major bank Nordea's economists expect the interest rates on mortgages with longer maturities to rise next year and thereafter. "List interest rates with longer maturities are expected to rise", they write in a press release.

Nordea economists add that the difference in interest rates for variable and fixed mortgages is relatively small and will probably decrease in the near future.

"It's a long time until the beginning of 2027 and a lot can happen, but if we are right that the Swedish Central Bank then initiates interest rate hikes, it should be taken into consideration when the term is chosen", they write.

According to Nordea's mortgage interest rate forecast, the interest rate on a mortgage with a five-year fixed interest rate will rise from today's 3.78 percent to 4.15 percent in December 2026 and 4.50 percent in December 2027.

The Swedish Central Bank's repo rate – which mainly affects variable mortgage interest rates – is expected to remain at 1.75 percent this year and next year, but will be raised to 2.50 percent by the end of 2027, according to the forecast.
