"We have agreed on a reform of family immigration that will give those who have come to Sweden, learned Swedish, studied or worked, and done the right thing a better chance of creating a future for themselves in Sweden," says Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M).
The government is working on legislative changes - a mechanism - so that close relatives can obtain residence permits in more situations. Exact details will be presented before the summer.
"And while we are implementing this legislative change, the Migration Board has announced a pause in current cases because the changes are moving in a favorable direction," says Minister of Education and Integration Simona Mohamsson (L).
Temporary stop
In practice, this means a temporary stop to deportations.
The question is what happens to those who have already received deportation orders.
"In that case, cases with final judgments may make a new application, and the court may decide on them again," says Kristersson.
The issue of teenage deportations has sparked a lot of debate recently. It concerns young people whose parents have the right to be in Sweden, but who themselves do not meet the requirements for a residence permit when they turn 18.
The Tidö parties also agree to appoint an internal investigation that will urgently look into the issue of revoking already granted permanent residence permits.
It has been an important point for the SD, but the government parties do not think that the proposals presented by a state investigator last fall were up to the mark.
Disagreement
The disagreement was also clear at the press conference. SD leader Jimmie Åkesson says he wants to implement the changes no later than the next term.
"We have slightly different opinions on that issue. We agree that we need to get further answers," says KD leader Ebba Busch.
"What I can say as Prime Minister, with one hundred percent certainty, is that this will be the subject of a new negotiation before a decision is made," says Kristersson.
The government also wants to change the rules for so-called track changers. Those who have a work permit should be able to apply for an extension from within Sweden, without having to leave the country first. One prerequisite is that the person has an income that reaches the salary requirement, which will be increased to 33,400 kronor in June.
Another announcement is that professions in healthcare and social care will be exempt from the salary requirement when the special shortage occupation list is presented.
