Wilderness life is combined with romance in the latest addition to the dating series' flora, "Stranded on Honeymoon island". After a couple of two-minute speed dates, the pairs are matched with a partner they marry, only to be released on a deserted island together.
There, they will live in a hut, wearing the clothes they wore at the wedding, with only basic provisions to eat.
To live together, just two people who are completely strangers to each other, on a deserted island, and very primitively. That was the twist in the love experiment that I was fascinated by, says Nikki Amini.
Too comfortable
Nikki Amini believes that it can be good that there are no distractions when the pairs get to know each other. They are stuck on the island together.
Maybe you're forced to confront your insecurities, solve problems and conflicts that arise. It's also personal development in it, she says.
But she herself would never have participated in such a setup.
I'm quite comfortable with myself, so maybe ten, fifteen years ago. I think it's super brave to participate.
Less charming sides
There will be love in the program, reveals Nikki Amini – but also a lot of conflicts along the way. You may not be your best self in an exposing environment, where you're hungry and don't sleep that well, she reasons.
Then your less charming sides may come out, but they have to come out sooner or later in a relationship, she says.
Nikki Amini said yes to trying something new on TV – but also because she herself enjoys watching dating series.
I think we humans are generally quite interested in observing others, how they behave and interact, what's done and said.
There are quite a few dating programs, do we need another one?
I think so! Especially this format, it doesn't exist. When you're placed in a completely different context, away from your comfort zone.
Three episodes of the program will premiere on Max and one episode on Channel 5, on June 3.
