Ever since the Olympic Games in Barcelona 1992, the USA's basketball men been able to form a "Dream Team" filled with NBA stars.
Now that flag football is included in the program for the Olympic Games in Los Angeles 2028, the home nation will likely be able to form a similar dream national team.
The owners of the clubs in the American football league NFL voted yes to allowing Olympic Games participation for their stars during a meeting in Minnesota.
It's an incredible honor for all athletes to represent their country in the Olympic Games, which is the pinnacle of global sports, said NFL Commissioner Robert Goodell after the meeting.
Flag football is like American football, but less violent. Instead of tackling, you pull a flag off the opponent. Five players per team are on the field at the same time.
I know that flag football's participation in the Olympic Games has sparked enormous interest among NFL players who want to take the chance to compete for their country on this global stage. We are very happy that they now get the chance, says Goodell.
Two quarterback stars who have already said they are interested in Olympic Games participation are the three-time Super Bowl winner Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs, and Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles, who led his team to the Super Bowl title in February after a win against just Kansas City.
Six men's teams and six women's teams will play the tournament in the Olympic Games. Each squad consists of ten players, but a maximum of one player can be selected from the same NFL club. Players who are not American citizens can be selected for their respective national teams.
