The Globe and Mail writes that the newspaper failed in its mission by reporting information that came from the Indigenous community in Kamloops. Using ground-penetrating radar, it was believed that the remains of 215 children had been found near a closed Catholic school in the town.

Many Indigenous children previously attended boarding schools in Canada, where abuse was widespread.

Several Catholic churches were vandalized and set on fire following the reports. However, in the Kamloops case, despite extensive investigations, no remains have been confirmed or excavated.
