Newspaper backtracks on reports of dead children in mass graves

The Globe and Mail wrote that it failed in its mission in reporting information that came from the Indigenous community in Kamloops. The paper reported that ground-penetrating radar suggested remains of 215 children had been found near a closed Catholic school in the town.

Many Indigenous children attended boarding schools in Canada, where abuse was widespread.

Several Catholic churches were vandalized and set on fire following the reports. However, in the Kamloops area, despite extensive investigations, no remains have been confirmed or excavated.
