New Swedish podium spot after drama: "Panic"

Third relay race, third medal for the Swedish biathletes in the World Championship premiere in Finland. But had not national team leader Johannes Lukas sprinted so fast, Sweden would not have gotten to start in the men's relay where it became a third place. It was panic and just to max out, says Jesper Nelin who was about to miss the weapon control.

Jesper Nelin shot himself in and then went out to warm up on skis – completely unaware that he had not done the weapons check, which is usually the first thing he does when he arrives at the arena.

I heard on the radio that there were only ten minutes left, and I understood that Jesper was on the practice track, so it was just a matter of running out and trying to find him. I had to run through the forest and then stood there for 1.5 hours, completely soaked. Now I'm on the plus side, says national team coach Johannes Lukas.

Nelin tells that Lukas screamed that there were only four minutes left until the weapons check closed.

It was a bit away, so it became panic and just maxed out. I barely made it, there was not much time left.

Fastest in the track

How could you forget?

I didn't have a thought about it, was so focused on the shooting. It's my first World Cup, so it's not so strange, jokes the 32-year-old veteran.

The maximum skiing on skis seems to have worked well as a warm-up. Nelin was the fastest in the skiing on his track.

It felt good today, he says.

"Like night and day"

Martin Ponsiluoma had a tough day on the track in the mixed relay on Saturday, but gave a response on Sunday when he was also the fastest on his track and could hand over to Sebastian Samuelsson at the same time as Norway, with only France ahead of them.

It was like night and day compared to yesterday, I'm very pleased. There was a bit of tension yesterday and high shoulders. But today it felt different and I could push as usual, it was incredibly nice, says Ponsiluoma.

He also shot full hits in the standing shooting.

It was really good today, so I'll take that with me. It's in the standing shooting that it always decides.

Samuelsson and Johannes Thingnes Bø helped each other out on the track to try to catch up with France, but after Samuelsson missed, the Norwegian could pull away and secure second place. The Norwegian thus got revenge from the World Championship relay that Sweden won after Samuelsson defeated Bø in the sprint.

France won with a 25-second margin and Emilien Jacquelin could take it easy on his final track.
