Anyone who reads the International Ski Federation's rule book properly will find a new point.
It means that cross-country skiers can now be immediately disqualified for “serious or repeated unsportsmanlike conduct.” The rule came about after a high-profile incident in the Ski Classics cross-country ski race where Swede Max Novak started arguing with Norway’s Ola Jörgen Bruvoll last season.
“Need to heat up”
There are divided opinions among the Swedish stars regarding the new rule.
There must be emotions in sports. So no... It can't just be that you have to keep quiet all the time. If an incident happens, you have to get a little heated. It really can't be that you get disqualified right away. It will just be a question of interpretation then, from the jury, says Edvin Anger.
Frida Karlsson is pretty sure that you're no longer allowed to swear. Or is she?
No, I don't think so. But I don't really know. If I scream "fuck" to myself, will I get punished? I don't really know. But you're not allowed to say anything to each other anyway, she says.
“Some people think it’s important”
Ebba Andersson is also thinking about the rule.
"Yeah, what do I think about it? I can swear and stuff. It happens sometimes. I try to use it more to reinforce what you feel, in positive contexts. But to be honest, the rule is mostly about common sense. How you behave towards each other. I don't think there should be a rule to live by," she says.
Jonna Sundling and Moa Ilar like the rule change.
"That's reasonable. I think you should behave. Feelings are good, but you don't have to be as "douchey" as you want," says Sundling.
Great! Super good. Some people think it's important to show emotions, but I think you can show emotions in other ways too, says Ilar.
