The 70 series is the first major product with the Harmony OS Next operating system. It is an epoch shift since it completely breaks the earlier Chinese phones' bond with Google's global Android system.
Thus, the Chinese giant shows that it has built up its own capacity for the most advanced mobile technology. This ability has been questioned since the USA and other Western countries banned most technology exports to China in 2019, citing the reason that Chinese components in, among other things, 5G networks pose a security threat.
But with Mate 60, Huawei showed last year that it could build semiconductors just as well as the leading companies in the Western world. And by breaking with Android, it now stands entirely on its own domestic feet.
It is a milestone for China now that they are leaving their dependence on Western technology, says Gary Ng at the investment firm Natixis to the news agency AFP.
Huawei's new self-confidence was already evident in September when they released a "triple-foldable" phone, Mate XT, which costs the equivalent of over 30,000 kronor.
Mate 70 is intended more as a mass-produced product, and has a starting price of around 8,000 kronor when it begins selling in China.
