Simona Mohamsson was elected party leader for The Liberals on Tuesday. Four days later, she is now also a minister in the Kristersson government. Mohamsson takes on the task of Minister of Education with responsibility for school and integration.
That's what I do with both pride and determination. Sweden is a country with great opportunities even for us who are born in another country, says Simona Mohamsson during the press conference.
Folkpartiet "classics"
Her two areas of responsibility are closely linked, Mohamsson believes.
We see that a good school is the foundation for good integration.
The school should focus on its core activities and get rid of the noise.
Reading, writing, and arithmetic, and establishing respect for the teacher. Folkpartiet "classics".
It's no secret that The Liberals have always put school first, and that's how it will continue to be, she says.
Mohamsson emphasizes that the party will enter the election campaign after the summer. When asked what issues she wants to drive to promote integration, she is certain:
It's a lot about more children seeing their parents go to work. And that more people learn the Swedish language as children. Many children learn Swedish as a second language despite being born in Sweden. That combination is a winning proposal, she tells TT.
Party colleague Johan Britz becomes the new Minister for Labor Market. Britz has previously been a coordination secretary for The Liberals and has worked in the government office for eleven years.
I know exactly what conditions apply now, he says.
New tasks
He will also work closely with Mohamsson to take integration in the labor market further.
The integration debt is large. But the ambition cannot be anything other than that more people should get employment, says Britz.
The new minister highlights three measures that will reduce unemployment, which he believes is a structural problem.
Education, perhaps especially vocational training, it should become more profitable to work and less profitable not to work, he says.
The current ministers Lotta Edholm and Nina Larsson receive new tasks in connection with the government reshuffle. Edholm, who was previously Minister of Education, becomes Minister of Upper Secondary School, Higher Education, and Research. Larsson, previously Minister for Gender Equality and Labor, becomes only Minister for Gender Equality.
The reshuffle comes after Liberals Johan Pehrson and Mats Persson left their tasks.
