The Region of Gävleborg has introduced the journal system Cosmic. But after one and a half weeks of the new system, doctors are sounding the alarm about extensive deficiencies, reports the newspaper Sjukhusläkaren.
It's very easy to get a list of all ultrasound images, including images of sensitive nature such as ultrasound images from gynecological examinations without guaranteed patient consent, says Frida Dannberg, who is the chairman of the Gästrike Hälsinge Medical Association, to the newspaper.
Dannberg further tells Sjukhusläkaren that doctors have gone back to the old system when it comes to extra sensitive images, such as in cases of sexual assault.
For us, it's completely unacceptable that the new journal system has been launched without this being addressed. The system makes it impossible for us to protect patients' integrity, she says to the newspaper.
There are also problems with individuals with protected personal data being visible in the system and thus risking being called up when doctors retrieve patient information. For the time being, the region has therefore decided that no patients will be called up.
Martin Andersson says that the problems with the system will be addressed "in the near future". On its website, the company behind Cosmic writes that "19 out of 21 regions in Sweden have chosen all or parts" of the system.
