Today's super-G in Wengen was one of the few remaining opportunities to achieve a viable result.
The first intermediate time looked promising, but then came the mistakes that cost both time and positions. Failing to finish in the top 30 and scoring no points again was not something to call the Swedish Olympic Committee (SOK) about.
Monsén will get another chance on Saturday to show that he is an Olympic contender. The classic Lauberhorn downhill will be decided in Wengen.
In the coming days, slalom skier Kristoffer Jakobsen will also need to deliver to possibly earn a place in the Swedish Olympic squad. William Hansson, Fabian Ax Swartz and Gustav Wissting are the other Swedes starting in Wengen.
So far, the men's alpine skiers have been left out of the Olympic squad. Among the women, Sara Hector, Anna Swenn-Larsson, Estelle Alphand and Cornelia Öhlund have been selected.
In the giant slalom in Kronplatz on Tuesday, Hilma Lövblom and Hanna Aronsson Elfman will have the opportunity to convince the Swedish Olympic Committee to select them for Cortina.
The Swedish Olympic Committee will complete the Olympic squad early next week. The squad will be presented in full on Thursday.
