Smoke is once again rising from the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital, often described as a stronghold for the pro-Iranian Shiite militia Hezbollah.
Lebanon-based Hezbollah attacked Israel on March 2 in retaliation for Israeli and US attacks on Iran on February 28. This drew Lebanon into the war raging in the region.
Since then, more than a million people have been forced to flee their homes in Lebanon. More than 1,200 people have been killed and over 3,500 injured in Israeli attacks, according to authorities.
Over the weekend, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that he had ordered the expansion of a so-called security zone in southern Lebanon.
