A legal process is currently underway between the two companies. The case concerns Nelly's discovery that several images of its clothing were used by Shein to market similar garments, and Nelly sued Shein for copyright infringement.
Despite a previous ruling in the Patent and Market Court in Nelly's favor, the company has now discovered that the same thing happened again in 2025–2026.
"It is clear to me that this is not about individual mistakes but about a systematic approach on Shein's part. For us, this is not about financial gain but about a fundamentally important issue," says CEO Helena Karlinder-Östlundh in a message to TT.
After discovering that the Chinese fashion site Shein had used Nelly's images without permission, Nelly chose to sue the company for copyright infringement.
The lawsuit named three companies under the Shein brand.
In October last year, the Patent and Market Court ruled in Nelly's favor. However, Shein will be compensated for legal costs of approximately one million kronor. Shein, in turn, will be responsible for approximately 600,000 kronor in legal costs for Nelly.
Nelly has appealed the judgment regarding payment of legal costs.
