The National Theatre will reduce its staff by up to 20 permanent positions over the next three years. This is stated by CEO Susanna Dahlberg to Dagens Nyheter. She states that the cuts are a consequence of the government's cultural policy.

Before 2024, our state allocation was reduced and is now unchanged. But since salaries and other prices for services and goods are being raised, there will be less money left to conduct the activities. To have a long-term sustainable economy and a balanced budget, we need to reduce.

Which positions will be affected is not yet clear, but all departments may be impacted.

According to Susanna Dahlberg, the audience and accessibility will notice the consequences – fewer productions, fewer venues, and in the long run, less geographical distribution of performing arts in the country. She also warns that the industry risks losing competence when job opportunities become fewer.

Today, The National Theatre has 169 permanent employees, and a total of around 600 people work in the organization on an annual basis if you include project employment and temporary positions.
