Danskjävel. Resign. Boos and whistles. The national team captain Jon Dahl Tomasson had to endure one or two things before, during and after the World Championship qualifying loss against Switzerland. Disrespectful, says national team manager Stefan Pettersson.

Cold winds swept in over the grass field at Bosön, where those who did not play at all or participated for a shorter time against Switzerland, trained on Sunday afternoon.

A west wind against the storm of criticism and the discontent that swirls around the national team in general and Jon Dahl Tomasson in particular.

Stefan Pettersson on the extensive demands that Tomasson should be replaced:

Now it's the association that controls that issue, I hope. We don't have those thoughts at all, but rather it's supporters who express themselves in one way or another.

"Also a human being"

How does Tomasson take what is said about him?

He has been through a lot, but he is also a human being, so of course... everyone understands how it is to be called a Danish devil, says Pettersson.

It's unusual – the question is whether it has even happened before – that a national team captain is booed.

I don't remember it happening. I think it's really sad and also think it was incredibly sad to hear the audience boo during the Swiss national anthem, says Pettersson.

It's not Sweden, not Swedish. What are we doing? But it's probably the whole society that's going in that direction, with social media and where you can express yourself in any way without any consequences.

"Something that doesn't feel right"

Many of us have said it, you don't boo during the opponent's national anthem. It's something that doesn't feel right.

Do you know if the players also reacted to the boos during the song?

I know that some of them heard it and that they didn't like it, says Stefan Pettersson.

The national team's World Championship qualification continues against Kosovo at Ullevi in Gothenburg on Monday evening. Nearly 40,000 tickets have been sold for the match.
