The team took the lead after nearly 16 minutes of the first period. After that, it wasn't until the third period that the scoring really started.
Just two minutes into the third period, the 2-2 goal was scored when Nashville's Nick Blankenburg put the puck in the net. Then it just kept rolling. Swede Filip Forsberg set up the 5-3 goal that teammate Erik Haula put in about 15 minutes into the third period. With just over a minute left in the game, the final puck went into the net when Steven Stamkos put in the 6-3 goal.
"This was big for us. It feels like we've been in a million games like this where we haven't been able to get a second goal to get us going. Tonight we were rewarded," Nashville coach Andrew Burnette said after the game, according to nhl.com.
Swedish star Lucas Raymond scored an assist for the losing team Detroit, when he played Alex DeBrincat forward just over five minutes into the second period.
"We went into the third period, at home, with a chance to win. So we have to be better, and have a sense of urgency," Raymond said after the game, according to nhl.com.
