Over 3,400 people have been confirmed dead after the major earthquake in Myanmar last week, reports state media.
Buildings were leveled with the ground and infrastructure was destroyed in large parts of the country. The death toll has risen to 3,455 on Saturday, announces the leader of the military junta, Min Aung Hlaing. 4,840 people are injured and 214 are still missing.
Nearly 15,000 buildings, including homes, schools, temples, and hospitals, have been destroyed. In addition, hundreds of bridges, dams, and roads have been damaged in the quake.
Many people are still without a roof over their heads. Either they are forced to sleep outdoors because their houses have collapsed, or they do so due to fear of further collapse.
The UN estimates that over three million people may have been affected by the earthquake.
