The teenage boy charged with the murder in Fruängen in Stockholm was wanted before the crime after his asylum application was rejected. Three days before the murder, he was stopped by police but released, reports Dagens ETC.

The boy, now 17, is suspected of shooting dead a 16-year-old boy in a subway on March 2. Another teenager was injured but survived. A total of four people have been charged with involvement.

The suspected shooter, along with his mother, had been denied asylum in Sweden. He was therefore wanted, with a decision to appear in custody at the border police. The decision not to take him into custody when he was checked by police was nevertheless made by the border police, according to documents that the newspaper has seen.

The boy denies murder.
