The list is intended to enable EU member states to conduct faster asylum examinations, referring to the fact that citizens of the listed countries are rarely considered to have grounds for asylum.
Seven countries – Bangladesh, Colombia, Egypt, India, Kosovo, Morocco and Tunisia – have been proposed by the EU Commission. When the EU Parliament is now to address the issue, Tomas Tobé (The Moderate Party), who negotiates for the conservative party group EPP, wants to see swift support for it.
He is therefore open to an agreement together with the far-right party groups.
I know that there is already resistance from the social democrats when it comes to, for example, Tunisia, but here I am prepared to gather the majority required in the European Parliament. We must get a much more effective migration policy, says Tobé to TT.
Also, EU member states in the Council of Ministers are reported to be behind the seven-country list. A decision is expected to be made towards the end of the year or at the beginning of 2026.
