When it becomes expensive to fail, then you have strong reasons to use idle capacity and organize your care better, says Minister for Social Services Camilla Waltersson Grönvall (The Moderate Party).
Today, a region should refer a patient to another region and cover the costs if the care guarantee cannot be fulfilled.
But it does not work, according to Waltersson Grönvall.
You have got 90 days which are then replaced with 90 days in a new region. This can be dragged out for quite a long time, she says.
Waltersson Grönvall believes that The Moderate Party's proposal transfers power to the patients. The idea is that the patient themselves should be able to go and seek care elsewhere and thereby force the care provider in their home region to pay the costs much earlier than today.
In this way, the patient gets a completely different kind of empowerment, says Waltersson Grönvall.
Today, you sit as a patient completely in the hands of the regions.
The role model is Denmark where they, according to Waltersson Grönvall, have managed to get rid of a large part of the care queues.
The proposal from The Moderate Party's party executive board will be dealt with at the party congress in October.
