Second again – once again only two seconds from victory. Moa Ilar does not have seconds on her side in the cross-country World Cup. Two seconds this weekend too, it's a bit bittersweet, she tells Viaplay after placing second in the 10 kilometer freestyle.

Last weekend in Trondheim, it was Ebba Andersson who took home the victory.

On Sunday in Davos, it was Norwegian Karoline Simpson who took home the victory. The Norwegian took her first World Cup victory of her career – 2.1 seconds ahead of Ilar.

Astrid Øyre Slind finished third, 2.2 seconds behind the winner, and Maja Dahlqvist was fourth, six seconds behind.

“High altitude is difficult”

Despite the narrow margin to the winner, Moa Ilar felt the most joy.

The high altitude in Davos made her have doubts beforehand.

"I didn't expect this, it's so nice," she says.

High altitude is difficult, it's a tricky course with a lot of uphill. I wasn't completely convinced before the start, says Moa Ilar to Viaplay.

After two second places in just over a week, she hopes that her Olympic spot is secured.

“Pretty tired”

Maja Dahlqvist was also pleasantly surprised when she ran evening sprint races on both Friday and Saturday.

I didn't believe it was true when I got the times along the course. I felt pretty tired after two tough days of racing. Since then it's been really tight, too bad I didn't go a few seconds faster, says Dahlqvist.

Jonna Sundling, like Maja Dahlqvist, had competed both Friday and Saturday and chose to stand over. They won the team sprint on Friday together, then Sundling took home the individual sprint on Saturday.

Ebba Andersson and Frida Karlsson opted out of the weekend in Davos.

The World Cup is now taking a Christmas break before it's time for the Tour de Ski which starts in Toblach on December 28th.

In the tour, the skiers will also compete on the Olympic courses in Val di Fiemme.

Correction: In an earlier version, it was stated that second place was Moa Ilar's marginally best individual World Cup result. This is incorrect. She has two previous victories.
