According to Evans, the state's investigative agency, the BCA, had agreed on Wednesday to handle the investigation together with the federal police, the FBI, and the two had begun coordinating their work.
A few hours later, however, a new message arrived.
“The investigation would now be led solely by the FBI and the BCA would no longer have access to case materials, crime scene evidence, or the ability to conduct interviews, which are necessary to complete a full-scale and independent investigation,” Evans said in a statement, continuing:
“As a result, the BCA has reluctantly decided to withdraw from the investigation.”
The high-profile incident took place in connection with one of the immigration authorities' operations against irregular migrants in the state of Minnesota.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, the woman reportedly tried to run over an ICE representative. But both Minnesota's mayor and its governor, Democrat Tim Walz, have sharply criticized the intervention.
