Minister for Social Services Camilla Waltersson Grönvall is open to changing the law on permit requirements, which has forced many protected housing facilities to close. Now she will meet with representatives of the women's shelters.

The permit requirement was introduced in April 2024 and it forces women's shelters to apply for permits for their protected accommodations. Minister for Social Services Camilla Waltersson Grönvall believes that the reform was necessary to increase the quality of the accommodations, according to P4 Värmland.

But now she says that changes to the law can be implemented if needed.

The Health and Social Care Inspectorate has since the law was introduced given several women's shelters rejections of their applications. One of the reasons is that several of them have alcohol bans, which violates the law's requirements for respect for the individual's integrity and self-determination.

We are following this very closely and if it needs to be changed, the government is naturally open to this, says Waltersson Grönvall.
