A midwife is prohibited with immediate effect from assisting at home births. She has conducted her business in contravention of the National Board of Health and Welfare's guidelines and assisted also at risk births at home.

The decision has been made by the Inspectorate for Health and Care (Ivo) with reference to significant danger to patients' lives, health or personal safety.

During an inspection, the midwife herself has stated to Ivo that she assists with home births even when it comes to twins who are to be born and when the child is in a seat, i.e. does not have its head down.

Although there have been two midwives present at such risk births, it is not sufficient competence according to Ivo and not in line with the National Board of Health and Welfare's guidelines.

Ivo also attaches importance to the fact that home births are offered "regardless of distance to the nearest hospital".

In the business, women in labor have been given medication without individual prescription from a doctor. The journals also show that the midwife does not listen to fetal sounds to a sufficient extent.

Similarly, Ivo criticizes serious deficiencies in record-keeping.

Usually, Ivo decides on a injunction, where one lists the deficiencies that must be rectified in an operation. But here, Ivo means, it's about such deep-seated and extensive deficiencies that an injunction is not enough. Therefore, it becomes a ban.
