The Danish and Greenlandic governments have been kept informed about talks NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte had with the US president in Davos, the Danish prime minister said. The issue of Danish and Greenlandic sovereignty was not raised, she said.

"NATO fully agrees with the position of the Kingdom of Denmark. We can negotiate on everything political: security, investments, economics." says Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in a written statement.

“But we cannot negotiate our sovereignty,” she writes, adding:

"I have received information that this has not been the case either," she states.

Issues concerning Denmark and Greenland can, of course, only be agreed upon by Denmark and Greenland, the Danish Prime Minister emphasizes.

She makes it clear that Denmark wants to have a continued, constructive dialogue with allies on how security in the Arctic can be strengthened, including the US's so-called Gold Dome (a missile defense system).

"Provided that it is done with respect for our territorial sovereignty."
