The museum closed in 2023 with the announcement that it would be relocated to the Stock Exchange House, but not until after the Nobel Museum had moved from there to new premises, which have not yet been built. In the meantime, the cultural administration was tasked with investigating the so-called "dead well" as a temporary exhibition space. It was intended to open to the public in 2027.
However, the cultural administration's investigation shows that the premises are not suitable for exhibitions. An entrance from one of the pavilions would require too extensive interventions in a culturally historically important building, and furthermore, the accessibility requirements are not met.
According to Lin Annerbäck, acting head of the Medieval Museum, the museum has gained access to a smaller temporary space that will open in May, the so-called Medieval Store on Storkyrkan's courtyard. She reports that the Medieval Museum's operations, despite the relocation obstacles, are in full swing.
