The head of the Biathlon Integrity Unit, Greg McKenna, writes in an email to TT that the BIU is investigating the case of Julia Simon and that the conclusions can "hopefully" be presented by the end of the week.
Simon pleaded guilty and was sentenced to three months' probation for theft and fraud after taking national team colleague Justine Braisaz-Bouchet's credit card and using it to shop online. The French Ski Federation, which includes biathlon, suspended Simon for six months, five of which were suspended. This means that the French biathlon star will only miss the World Cup premiere in Östersund, which starts on Saturday, and that she can participate in the Olympics.
Biathlon's independent disciplinary unit, the BIU, is conducting its own investigation into the case, and its conclusions are expected to be released shortly.
The BIU has also begun looking into the new case within the French biathlon team where Jeanne Richard is accused of trying to tamper with Océane Michelon's rifle. The FFS has confirmed a "violation of the rules within the group" that led to the suspension but has not been able to establish any attempt at sabotage.
McKenna writes that the BIU is "working with the French national federation to establish the facts."
