The best way to avoid malnutrition for elderly, frail people with reduced appetite is to offer many, small meals with energy-rich and nutrient-rich food spread throughout the day.
The National Food Agency recommends at least six meals per day, but there are fewer municipalities that offer this today than four years ago, according to the report.
"If you are malnourished, you have a greater need for care, so for both the individual and society, there are strong reasons to work preventively", says Emelie Elin at the National Food Agency's competence centre for meals in care, school and care in a press release.
